No Smoking Policy
Policy Purpose
Pakistani Islamic Private School – Al Ain is fully committed to:
- Promoting the health, safety, and overall well-being of all students, staff, and school community members.
- Creating awareness regarding the harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoke.
- Maintaining a clean, healthy, and smoke-free environment within and around the school premises.
Scope
This policy applies to all school community members, including:
- Teaching and non-teaching staff
- Students
- Parents and guardians
- Visitors
- Contractors and service providers
It covers all school premises, buildings, transportation, and school-related events both on and off-campus.
Policy Statement
In accordance with UAE government regulations and best practices in health promotion, Pakistani School – Al Ain ensures a 100% smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the following areas:
- All school buildings (classrooms, corridors, washrooms, staff rooms, offices)
- School grounds (play areas, gardens, entrances, and exits)
- Car parks and school buses
- All areas during school events, trips, or activities (both on and off-site)
This includes tobacco products, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), and vaping devices.
Policy Objectives
- Promote a healthy lifestyle and protect all members of the school community from the health risks of smoking.
- Educate students on the dangers of smoking and empower them to make informed, healthy choices.
- Comply with local UAE laws and public health standards.
Provide clear signage and communication regarding smoke-free expectations on school grounds. - Reinforce the school’s role as a health-promoting institution.
Key Guidelines
- NO SMOKING signs are displayed prominently throughout the school.
- Smoking is prohibited during all school-related activities, regardless of location or time.
- School transport must maintain a smoke-free environment at all times.
- Staff, parents, and visitors must refrain from smoking near school gates, walls, or areas where students and families congregate.
- Teachers, drivers, support staff, and visitors are expected to model responsible behavior by not smoking at or around the school premises.
Electronic Cigarettes (E-Cigarettes & Vaping Devices)
The use of e-cigarettes or vaping devices is strictly prohibited on school property, as they emit nicotine-containing vapors harmful to users and bystanders alike.
Monitoring & Enforcement
- The policy is intended to be self-enforcing with a culture of mutual respect and cooperation.
- All employees are expected to politely remind any individual seen violating the policy.
- The school premises are under CCTV surveillance.
- The HR Department and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer are responsible for staff awareness and policy enforcement.
- Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary actions in line with UAE laws and school regulations.
Legal Reference
Smoking in educational institutions and public places is strictly prohibited by UAE Federal Law. Defaulters may face fines and legal consequences.
