Educational Risk Policy
1. Introduction
Pakistani Islamic Private School recognizes the importance of early identification and intervention for students who are at educational risk. Providing timely support ensures continuity, progression, and successful completion of schooling, enabling students to transition to higher education or other suitable pathways.
This policy establishes the framework for identifying, supporting, and monitoring students at educational risk through a structured and inclusive approach in line with ADEK’s Educational Risk Policy.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:
- Establish a clear mechanism to identify and support students at educational risk.
- Develop school-based procedures for intervention, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Ensure the use of a Tiered Model of Support that provides universal, targeted, and intensive interventions.
- Promote inclusion, equal opportunity, and academic success for all learners.
3. Definitions
- Educational Risk: The decreased likelihood of a student’s continuity, promotion, or graduation due to academic, behavioral, health, or social factors.
- Students at Educational Risk: Students identified as being or potentially being at risk of not achieving educational milestones.
- Tiered Model of Support: A three-tiered intervention framework that ensures all students receive the level of support they need — Universal (Tier 1), Targeted (Tier 2), and Intensive (Tier 3).
- Documented Learning Plan (DLP): A personalized plan outlining targets, strategies, and support for students identified at educational risk.
- Adaptive Teaching: Differentiated instruction strategies designed to meet diverse learner needs.
- Protective Factors: Conditions that reduce the likelihood of educational risk (e.g., positive school environment, strong parental involvement).
- Risk Factors: Conditions that increase the likelihood of educational risk (e.g., absenteeism, low achievement, family issues).
4. Policy Framework
4.1 Policy Requirements
Pakistani Islamic Private School shall:
- Develop and implement a structured process to identify, intervene, and monitor students at educational risk.
- Ensure all staff are aware of their roles in implementing this policy through training and professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure that student data is only shared on a need-to-know basis
5. Identification of Students at Educational Risk
5.1 Identification Process
The school will use a range of indicators to identify students at educational risk, including:
- Frequent absenteeism or poor attendance.
- Decline in academic performance.
- Behavioral issues or social-emotional difficulties.
- Wellbeing or health concerns.
- Additional learning needs or diagnosed conditions.
- Limited parental engagement or difficult home circumstances.
- Frequent school transfers or instability in schooling.
- Referrals by teachers, counselors, or parents.
5.2 Student Protection
If a student is identified as being at risk of harm or abuse, the school shall immediately follow procedures outlined in the ADEK Student Protection Policy.
5.3 Confidentiality
All records related to students identified at educational risk will be secured and confidential, accessible only to authorized personnel.
6. Tiered Model of Support
Tier 1 – Universal Support
- High-quality classroom teaching and inclusive practices for all students.
- Differentiated instruction, regular formative assessments, and supportive classroom environments.
- Continuous progress monitoring for early identification of struggling students.
Tier 2 – Targeted Support
- Small-group interventions for students who need additional support beyond Tier 1.
- Focus on specific academic or behavioral needs through short-term, structured programs.
- Regular review of student progress and adjustment of interventions as needed.
Tier 3 – Intensive Support
- Individualized interventions tailored to the specific needs of students requiring sustained support.
- May involve external specialists (psychologist, speech therapist, SEN coordinator) in line with ADEK policies.
- Documented Learning Plans (DLPs) are developed and regularly reviewed with parent and student input.
7. Intervention Procedures
7.1 Intervention Team
The School Intervention Team (SIT) shall guide the implementation of support strategies and consist of:
- Senior Leadership Representative
- Head of Inclusion / SEN Coordinator
- Social Worker or School Counselor
- Academic Supervisor / Head of Department
- Parent Liaison Officer
- Data Coordinator
7.2 Responsibilities
The SIT will:
- Review student data to determine the level of risk.
- Develop and monitor Documented Learning Plans (DLPs).
- Recommend Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions as necessary.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to ensure coordinated support.
- Refer students for specialist assessment when required.
8. Monitoring and Evaluation
- Continuous data collection and progress monitoring will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of interventions.
- DLPs will be updated every term based on student progress.
- Parent meetings will be organized regularly to review progress and discuss next steps.
- Data will be maintained digitally and shared with ADEK upon request.
- Annual evaluation of this policy’s effectiveness will be conducted by the School Leadership Team.
9. Professional Development
The school will provide annual training sessions to ensure that all teaching and support staff understand:
- Early signs of educational risk.
- Procedures for intervention and referral.
- Inclusive teaching strategies and differentiated instruction.
10. Compliance
- This policy is effective from the 2024/25 Academic Year.
- Full compliance is required by the 2025/26 Academic Year.
- Non-compliance will be addressed in accordance with ADEK regulations and internal school accountability measures.
