Drugs Policy
1. Introduction
Pakistani Islamic Private School (PIPS), Al Ain, upholds the laws of the United Arab Emirates and the moral teachings of Islam, which strictly prohibit the use, possession, or distribution of drugs and intoxicants. The school is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and drug-free learning environment that supports the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all students and staff.
2. Purpose
This policy aims to:
- Prevent drug and substance abuse among students and staff.
- Promote awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and related substances.
- Establish clear procedures for identifying, reporting, and addressing drug-related incidents.
- Comply with UAE Federal laws and ADEK requirements related to student safety and well-being.
3. Legal Framework
This policy is aligned with:
- UAE Federal Law No. (14) of 1995 on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
- Federal Decree Law No. (31) of 2021 on Crimes and Penalties.
- ADEK Policy Guidelines on Health, Safety, and Student Protection.
- Islamic moral principles emphasizing purity, responsibility, and self-control.
4. Definitions
Drugs: Any illegal, controlled, or psychoactive substances prohibited by UAE law.
Substance Abuse: Misuse of legal substances (e.g., prescription drugs, inhalants) for non-medical purposes.
Possession: Having control or custody of drugs or related paraphernalia.
Distribution: Sale, sharing, or promotion of drugs to others.
Intoxicants: Any material that impairs judgment or alters mental state, including alcohol and vaping products.
5. Policy Guidelines
5.1 Prohibition
- Possession, use, sale, or distribution of any drug or intoxicant within school premises, school buses, or during school activities is strictly prohibited.
- Students are not allowed to bring or consume energy drinks, vaping devices, or unprescribed medication.
5.2 Prevention and Education
- The school will conduct awareness campaigns and educational sessions on drug prevention each academic year.
- Collaboration with health authorities, ADEK, and parents will be maintained to promote awareness.
- Teachers and staff will receive training to identify early signs of substance misuse.
5.3 Reporting and Investigation
- Any suspicion or incident related to drugs must be reported immediately to the Principal or Designated Safety Officer.
- Investigations will be confidential, documented, and in line with ADEK protocols.
- Parents will be informed immediately of any confirmed incident.
5.4 Disciplinary Action
If a student is found violating this policy:
1. Immediate suspension pending investigation.
2. Parent meeting and referral to relevant authorities if required.
3. Mandatory counseling or rehabilitation through approved agencies.
4. Permanent expulsion for serious or repeated violations.
5. ADEK will be notified as per regulatory requirements.
5.5 Staff Conduct
- Staff members must serve as role models by maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.
- Any staff member involved in possession, use, or promotion of drugs will face disciplinary and legal action as per UAE law.
6. Support and Rehabilitation
- The school promotes a supportive approach for students struggling with substance issues.
- Counseling and referral services will be made available in collaboration with certified medical or psychological professionals.
- Reintegrating students after rehabilitation will be handled sensitively, ensuring continued supervision and support.
7. Roles and Responsibilities
Principal: Ensure full implementation of this policy, report cases to ADEK, and coordinate with authorities.
Teachers: Monitor student behavior, report suspicions, and integrate preventive education into lessons.
School Counselor: Provide awareness, early intervention, and referral support.
Parents: Monitor children’s activities, cooperate with the school, and promote healthy lifestyles at home.
Students: Abide by the policy, report concerns, and maintain a drug-free environment.
8. Monitoring and Review
- The policy shall be reviewed biennially or as required by ADEK regulations.
- Records of all drug awareness sessions, incidents, and reports shall be maintained securely.
